Stonehenge a story untold

As a kid I was always fascinated by our and world history I came across in the books and on the internet.

One of many fascinating places I always wanted to visit was “Stonehenge”!!

I recently got a chance to visit it. I was thrilled. The moment we made plans my thoughts were filled with questions..which always remained unanswered..

I said to myself finally it’s time to answer them..so we planned and reached the venue..a beautiful place which was crowded with tourists, families and inquisitive kids.

I entered the venue with audio information headphones which tells u insights and detailed representation of this English heritage site named Stonehenge…surrounded by nature. (You can even download the audio guide on your apple device or android phone it’s free with the name “Stonehenge”.)

An open plain land at first glance; a beautiful landscape. But, as you move or learn more about it…every step in that area seems to be telling a story to you; Some told and some untold..

What you can see in this area are;
1. FARLEIGH HUNGERFORD CASTLE
2. STONEHENGE
3. OLD SARUM
4. OLD WARDOUR CASTLE
5. SHERBORNE OLD CASTLE
6. MUCHELNEY ABBEY
7. CLEEVE ABBET

I was focused to see only Stonehenge as it was a thrilling experience to see, feel with my own eyes and senses. What I wanted to explore was how it would have been to visit such a historic site. Learning about it on audio guide, discovery channels, books etc have led to more questions from a eager child within me.

I was astound to learn more about it,”as an ancient temple aligned on the movements of the sun. The stones were raised 4500 years ago by sophisticated prehistoric people or ancient people.” Walking in their footsteps at the precious place made me feel blessed. A healing stone with its magnificent characteristics..( see picture below)

Stonehenge is managed by English heritage, the National Trust cares for surrounding landscape and they both are doing splendid job.

They have an exhibition too which makes you more familiar with this historic place up close and personal as they say. It feels you are their in that era as you walk through the exhibition and as you move forward you will see it to believe it what you have learned or heard so far!!

I left the place with even more questions, my own imaginations. Stunned with the knowledge, crafts, intelligence, thought process, planning, leadership, continuous efforts and determination of historic people.

I loved it and enjoyed it a lot. A truly magnificent place on earth with still so many secrets unexplored or untold…

(All pictures are taken by me and I write this post just to share how I felt and wanted the world to see it through my eyes.. :))
